organization = motivation

I have been learning and relearning things about myself lately. Such as, I get really grumpy when hungry and it is at those times that one little thing going 'wrong' (aka, not how I planned) can set me off. An important thing to be able to recognize, I'd say - and I think Mark agrees!

Another thing I've rediscovered this week - the state of my house affects my moods. I first learned this while at Kings for my first year of university, where for the first time in my life I actually consistently made my bed and kept my room organized - I discovered I could focus way more on school and other things when the space I'm in the most is organized and clean (and I'm talking the lived-in clean, not the sterile clean!).

After coming back from camping, Mark and I were both thrown back into work and it took us much longer than it should have to get all our camping gear cleaned up and put away. And by the time that was done, there were plenty of other things to clean up too. Last weekend, we finally got the motivation and incentive to do a really big cleaning push because Mark's sister, brother-in-law, and cousin were all going to be crashing at our place for a night. Now, if you've seen our little space, you'll understand that inorder to accommodate extra people, things need to be put away because space is at a premium.

It wasn't until after the weekend, when everyone was gone and it was back to the two of us, that I discovered how much the mess had affected me. Mark was the one who brought it to my attention because he commented that he hadn't seen me this happy in quite awhile. This past week I have felt more motivated to do baking and other little projects at home, and I think that's because I don't walk in the door after work and get overwhelmed by all the little things that should get done before I start other projects. This usually results in me feeling frustrated and I often end up not doing anything because I didn't know where to start.

Here's to keeping our house clean so that I can keep myself relaxed, content, motivated, and happy with life.

I leave you with a picture of my very first scrapbook page - a product of my motivation this past week. Our church has a new pastor and we're putting together a scrapbook where each family has a page to introduce themselves to her. I'm quite happy with how it turned out, especially considering my mom wasn't here to guide me!
